Who am I when I stop trying to become someone?
I don’t fully know the answer yet.
For most of my life, I’ve been chasing the next version of myself.
If I make more money…
If I get into better shape…
If I buy the nicer car…
If I own the better house…
If I accomplish enough…
Then maybe I’ll finally feel like I’m enough.
Except that’s not how it works.
The finish line keeps moving.
There is always another goal.
Another achievement.
Another promotion.
Another milestone.
For thirty years I’ve been trying to earn the feeling that I was already worthy of having.
Lately I’ve realized something that feels almost embarrassingly simple.
I’m already enough.
Not because I’ve accomplished everything.
Not because I’ve become extraordinary.
Simply because I exist.
Now I still want to grow.
I still want to lift weights.
Build businesses.
Learn new skills.
Travel.
Write.
Create.
But the motivation has changed.
I’m no longer growing to prove I’m worthy.
I’m growing because growth is part of who I am.
I don’t work out to prove I’m strong.
I work out because I appreciate what my body is capable of.
That’s a very different way to live.
